Duties of a Professor
“Guru Govind dono khade, kaake laagu pay
Balihaari guru aapno, Govind diyo milaay”
Famous Indian saint Kabir says Teacher is even greater than God. He says, if
teacher and God are both in front of me, who will I greet first. He then says it is
only because of the teacher's teaching that I am able to see God.
Likewise:
“Hari ruthe guru thaur hai, guru ruthe nahi thaur”
If God is upset with us, a guru can help to make the situation easy. However, if
the guru is upset with us, then no one can help us, and we will ultimately be
doomed.
And also;
“Sab dharti kagaj karu, lekhni sab banray
Saat samunder ki masi karu, gurugun likha na jaaye”
It says even if the whole earth is transformed into a paper with all the big trees
made into pens and water in the seven oceans into writing ink, even then the
glories of the Guru cannot be written. Such is the greatness of the Guru.
Our former President, Dr Radhakrishnan, has written, in regards to how a good
professor is, these golden words – “A good teacher is better than a thousand
priests.”
Education, through an intellectual perspective, fuels our cultural as well
as physical growth and all of this depends on the availability of a good and
adequate professor. Our country’s future is vested in educational institutions,
where the children’s future can be adequately sculpted only by a professor.
Perhaps this is precisely why the professor is bestowed with the daunting task of
the creation of the country. It is usually said that a professor is just like a candle;
he burns himself to guide others to light, making their lives bright. Only because
of professor’s guidance will one be able to achieve the country’s highest position.
The professor enjoys a rather respectable status in the society; every individual
looks up at the professor as someone Godly. America’s former President Barack
Obama writes –
Even if we possess dedicated teachers, supportive parents and also the world’s best and
most prestigious school, however, all of this will be practically worthless, if we are not
able to shoulder our responsibilities.
