CHAPTER 5

It was 11:05 pm. The cloudburst lasted for 20 minutes. Vakens’
were flabbergasted at the plight. The villa that was a blend of

exclusivity, comfort and delight was later on found to be
inhabited by spirits. The inhabitants of the villa went to change

their attires that they wore for the supper.

After putting on his nightwear, Mr. Vaken locked the house

and departed for sleep. Following her daily routine, Mrs. Vaken
wrote her diary and added uncanny and odd happenings that

she faced all day long in it. It was the time of 12:00 pm when
Mr. Vaken was awakened by a tragic sound of dropping of

their family portrait. Being in unsound sleep, Mrs. Sezia also
got up and both of them rushed towards the corridor to

investigate about the sound. They found their family portrait
broken into pieces. Bitz said, “Without manual or natural force,
how our canvas can be dropped like this”. Mrs. Vaken ordered

children to go to bed. Soon, the electricity went off. There was

all darkness. The Man of the villa called watchman to figure
out about the same. With the help of her mobile flashlight,
Mrs. Vaken became successful in finding a big torch from the

drawer. Night time fog could be seen in the sky. Again, the
weather became worse, cold wind, thunder and lightning

became noticeable.

The chandelier performed to and fro motion. Horrible and
unexplained noises catched the attention of Vakens’. Coming
down the staircase, they noticed the ghostly footprints on the
