Agriculture is the backbone of our civilization, and food is one of the
essential items without which all the human activities will tend to seize. A hungry
man cannot do anything. Food provides the necessary energy to carry out all the
other activities; hence, agriculture is an essential subject which needs careful
attention. Without agriculture, most of the food items cannot be imagined. All
the professionals, including workers, servicemen, leaders, bureaucrats, common
men, actor, singers, and even housewives can do their work only if there is
optimum fulfilment of required food intake. It may be surprising for many that
Dr Norman E. Borlaug from the US was awarded the Nobel Peace prize
although he was an agricultural scientist and worked in the agricultural science
                             field.

                               • Dr MS Swaminathan transformed Indian agriculture through the green

revolution, which involved plantation of high yielding varieties of rice and
                                   wheat.

Due to his contribution to the development of high yielding dwarf wheat
varieties, food production increased tremendously, and more bellies were filled
with food, so, there was peace in the world. It is a common saying that a hungry
man is an angry man. With the increasing hunger, anger and chaos in the world
have increased, resulting in the increased importance of agriculture and allied
subjects. Any candidate who wishes to study agriculture and allied sector subjects
should possess certain qualities such as interest in agro-based learning,
management skills, passion for research activities, leadership qualities and ability
to work in a team. Moreover, it also requires a person to have excellent
communication and numeracy skills to understand the role of economics in
agriculture and allied subjects. An agriculturalist should possess traits to work in
fields, and the ability to withstand the extremes of weather like hot, cold, and
rain. Both the agricultural scientists and the field workers have to face such
weather conditions and tolerate dirt, dust and soil.

Job opportunities in the field of agriculture have grown in recent times.
Employment opportunities vary depending on the qualification and experience
of a person. After graduation, if the students want a quick job or a quick buck,
