having breakfast, the pirate chief went to the sea to
punish the condemned pirate. It was his day of
punishment. Actually, his crime was that he had eaten
the grilled sea turtle marinated with spiced wine & pepper
all alone without sharing it with other pirates. In addition
to beef, grilled sea turtle was an important part of the
buccaneer diet & also a valued source of protein. For
other pirates, it was the crime & the only best
punishment in their pirate world was keelhauling.
Keelhauling was the worst form of punishment & torture
method whereby the condemned man had to drag
beneath the ship’s keel on a rope. Other than
keelhauling, their top-pirate punishments were taking off
shapeshifting power, marooning, throwing overboard,
walking the plank, dunking, gibbeting, sweating & Cat O’
Nine tails. Pirate’s form of torture are notorious for their
mercilessness & creative ways of inflicting excruciating
pain. The practice of keelhauling is no exception. The
victim experienced the most horrific, brutal & sadistic
torture technique. He was tied to a rope looped beneath
the vessel, thrown overboard & then dragged under the
keel & up the other side. The barnacles ripped the victim’s
clothing & skin to shreds as he was dragged along. This
form of gruesome punishment also served as a terrible
warning to other pirates. The pirate chief possessed
immense power, firstly he took off the culprit’s
