A country’s growth is eminent if all the sections of society are growing simultaneously. India is a country of two different [major] parts;

  1. Those who are well equipped with all the basic needs
  2. And the other of those who are less privileged and do not have enough resources to meet their basic needs.

Now, apparently, a sudden change is not possible. However, individual efforts might bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. And to build that bridge, here are the five ways in which you can help the latter section of the society:

Donating via NGOs

To give the context of how you can improve via NGOs, let’s take an example of a New Delhi based NGO, Lok Kalyan Samiti. They have been working for the unprivileged section for quite some time now.

With their ‘Sponsor a child’ initiative, they have provided essential treatments and education to the children. Additionally, free healthcare campaigns, General medical services, etc. are provided by this Delhi based NGO.

In short, the initiative of Lok-Kalyan Samiti, in particular, to help the unprivileged is commendable. You can donate a brick(figuratively) to such NGOs to build the bridge between the highly privileged and the deprived.

Donating food and other necessary things

Giving money to NGOs is a good thing, maybe the best thing. However, if you have time, donating directly to the underprivileged connects us more on an emotional level.  Therefore, directly help the needy by giving them food and other necessary things like clothes, money, and other household items.

Educating them

Donating them is a good cause, but the effect is temporary.  As the famous proverb reads, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

In short, what I am trying to say is – education is the only way out. Either you can financially help the needed by paying their education fees, or you can directly teach them. You can sponsor a child in India here.

All in all, particular skills, languages, laws, etc. can be taught to the people in need which enables them to make their living.

Spread the Awareness

Awareness can change anything. With the mass media, social media, open mics, and many more means of public communications, you can spread the understanding about the needs of unprivileged, and add them with your journey in helping the needy.

On the other hand, awareness must be spread amongst the underprivileged and less educated as well. Educating them about laws, fundamental rights, proper medical care, etc. can be a boon in their lives.

Start your own organization

With the belief in Gandhi’s “Be the change, you want to see in the world,” you can start your organization to help the deprived.

Gather all your resources. Leverage all your connections. And eventually go all in!

Final words:

It takes more than a few helping hands to develop a nation. You can be one of them. Don’t rely on the government. Don’t rely on ‘Tatas’ and ‘Ambanis’ of the country. Don’t overthink. Just start!

Donate to NGOs. Meet the underprivileged personally and sort out their problems in the best way possible. Educate them. In short, help them in any ways possible.

How are you helping this nation grow? Let us know in the comments below.
